Players to fit the Scheme vs Scheme to fit the Players

What did Redskins fans expect going into this season, that Jason Campbell and the rest of the offense would be running on all cylinders?

[Note by CptChaosSidekick, 09/03/08 9:28 AM EDT ]If this was alreay mentioned then I apologize.

I would usually post this in the Fanshots section but sometimes topics in those sections go unnoticed. The name of the blog is The Rivalry Esq.

I belong to several blogs throught the SB* Nation and all have been great reads and have been very user friendly. Just thought some of the best fans in the NCAA might want to be in the know.

Shawn Springs a game-time decision for Thursday

[Note by Skin Patrol, 09/02/08 5:24 PM EDT ] Promoted, edited very slightly. Shawn Springs is a gametime decision and I hope this isn't one of those injuries that just lingers on and on and on and on. Stay tuned.

The Redskins Insider reporting on more doom and gloom.

X-rays of Shawn Springs' leg (which swelled after he was kicked in practice Monday) were negative and the team said he has a bruised calf. He's likely to be a game-time decision Thursday, a la Jason Taylor.

That's just freaking great. It's not good enough that our offense is banged up, but now our starting CB is a game-time decision as well. Our defense better get a pass rush on Eli Manning or it could be a very long evening. I wonder if the team might take a look at FA CB Ricky Manning Jr.; It is this blogger's opinion that we can't count on our very young depth in the secondary to be able to hold other teams WR's at bay (ED Note: especially this early in the season). They need Springs' wisdom back in the secondary, along with his talent.

Non-kool aid edition: How do you think the Skins will fair in '08?

[Note by Skin Patrol, 09/02/08 11:05 AM EDT ] Promoted, edited slightly, enjoy. I'm going to be a lot better at promoting things now that I've a) returned to a schedule of some normalcy b) the season is back.

Well people the preseason has finally come to an end and the NFL was smart enought to lead off the regular season with the best team in the land: Your Washington Redskins.  Taking everything we've seen in the offseason, OTA's, and presesason what are we to surmise as to how our team will do?

Things that are positive going into the season:

  1. We have good talent on both sides of the ball
  2. Great coaching staff that players have bought into
  3. We play the NFC West
  4. Great homefield advantage
  5. Good to possibly great D

Things that are negative going into the season:

  1. We play in the toughest division in the L (slang for league. I have massive street cred) (ED Note: No comment)
  2. New Coach + New scheme= FAIL
  3. Injury woes
  4. Depth chart at WR,LB,OL

It's futile to try and pick each game the Redskins might win or lose because what makes the NFL great is that you just never know who is going to come out on top. I will say this, 3 out of our first 5 games are against the NFC East and they're all away games. If we can go 2 for 3 in those we will be cooking with gas! Per the naked eye the other games in that span look winnable.

CptChaosSidekick's non kool aid outlook(s) for '08

  • Offense picks up WCO, injuries kept to minimum- 10-6- WildCard
  • Opposite of that- 8-8

I am however 100% sure to go apeshit should we piss games away like last year.

People I'm worried

DE Jason Taylor probably wont play against the Giants this Thursday and as Coach Zorn said, we'd rather have him for 15 games rather then 1. Our defense is pretty solid so this isn't my main concern.

Longest Tenured Skin to Sit the Pine & Practice Squad Set

[Note by CptChaosSidekick, 08/31/08 1:38 PM EDT ]Redskins Insider reports RB Marcus Mason has signed on to the Baltimore Ravens Practice Squad

Since the end of the preseason it has become evident that our O-line is having pass protection difficulties. Most notably OT Jon Jansen. Well today it was announced that OT Stephon Heyer will get the start to open the season against the Giants this Thursday. The Redskins Insider reports:

Heyer said he learned from his experience starting last season and feels he is ready. "It's the same concepts, just a different day," Heyer said. He said the coaches did not inform him whether the move is permanent because Jansen is dealing with a sprained foot. "I don't know really, I'm just going to take it as they want me to start this Thursday and I'll go from there," Heyer said.

A Cubs Fans Wishes to Let You Know That the Nats Are Doomed

A sample of the article from Mr. I's blog:

Apparently, here’s the latest sign that the Nationals will soon be forced to pack up shop and leave D.C.: Their radio ratings are awful. (This is totally shocking because, a) AM/FM radio is doing so well right now, b) how could anyone not wanna listen to a 100-loss team play?) This comes on the heels of the news earlier this summer that their TV ratings are horrible, which was a huge shocker seeing as they’re almost entirely relegated to MASN2, a channel that may actually exist, despite the fact that I’ve never seen it.

Lets Play You're the Head Coach (poll) One More Roster cut

First thing first, LB Matt Sinclair is the latest Redskin to turn in his playbook. Cindy Boren of Redskins Insider with the news:

He bumped into Jason Reid and Paul Tenorio at Redskins Park and told them he has three fractures in a lumbar vertebra (the L-5; we are seeking a little medical clarification on that). "They let me go," he said. "It's going to be at least three months so they had to make room on the roster."

I had heard he was injured and could miss some serious time so I guess the team waited for clarification and when they got it, well down comes the ax. By my count the Redskins have to cut one more player to 75 by 4 p.m. Tuesday and then the big roster trim to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday. Again why is Derek Devine still on this team?

It's better to just try and forget about our last preseason game against Carolina. In my best Forrest Gump voice: "and that's all I'm going to say about that". Maybe so but don't tell Coach Zorn & Antwaaan Randle EL that. Coach Zorn said after the teams performance that the starters better prepare to see some playing time. I'm glad ARE thought: "Yeah, no doubt we have to do this," and "With the way we played, it's just the right thing to do."

It's great to see that Washington Redskins players have pride and want to hit the regular season with some momentum but for me one series that looks like our starters have rhythm is enough. Last week has horrid I know, but I'm not sure risking injury is worth whatever possible momentum obtained by a good drive in the preseason. How would you gameplan?
